Return address labels are probably the most common type of address labels. These labels are what you put in a letter so that the recipient would know to whom the letter came from. Another purpose of the return address is for the postman to know where he should return the mail if the recipient is no longer living in the indicated address. So what makes an affective return address label? Here are some of the tips.
Take note that there a different address labels that cater to different occasion. To make an event more special, you must have a label that sums up the festivity. For birthday parties, you can put some balloons and cakes with candles. Or if it is a victory party for your basketball team, then you can put some sports item in your label like basketball hoop or ball. Of course if it is Christmas, then Santa Clause is a staple in any design as well as the eponymous Christmas tree and gifts. By doing so, you are already spreading the goodwill and become part of the merriment even before your recipient opens your letter. The envelope alone will set the mood right away.
Creativity is not overdoing things. When we look at different designs on different web sites, we are facing a dilemma because we simply can’t decide which ones to use. Since a lot of designs fancy our eyes, we couldn’t help but incorporate them in one return address label. No matter how hard we try to layout all those elements, it would still be the same messy stuff. What we have to consider is the way our recipients will look at our labels—and not how we perceive them to be. Isn’t it better to have a label that is truly appealing rather than the one which is merely trying to impress? If we can keep our designs simple yet still impressive, then that is creativity.
What is the purpose of your letter? Now this is the question you must ask yourself before even attempting to make a return address label. Are you writing a personal message to a friend or dishing out marketing materials for your clients? It is best not to use a single design for all your mail needs. Remember that work related letters require a more elegant and classic label whereas personal letters are much more informal and you can do just about anything with their designs (provided that you don’t overdo it).
Enough of fancy stuff. Sometimes we think that by making our labels fanciful that it would look cool to other people. The truth is, most people just don’t like these things. You can play around with fonts as much as you like, but be sure that your text is still easily readable. The same goes for your label background. Some of us would like to bring in the “big guns” if only to impress others—an illustration of their favorite animé character or a photo of their favorite actor. But it is best to go for simple background with subtle hues so that it will not cloud your text.
